I don't know about you but when I was younger, I would always play outside and discover things (even if they were of no monetary value). I dreamed of finding something cool...treasure that I could call my own. Ironic though, in the Bible, Jesus tells the parable of the hidden treasure. It compares the Kingdom of Heaven to a treasure hidden in a field. A man finds this treasure, hides it in the earth, sells all he has so he could keep the treasure and the land it was buried in. Why is this relevant you ask? In ancient times it wasn't out of the ordinary for men to hide their treasures in the earth. During the era in which Christ was on earth, it was not uncommon to discover in neglected land old coins and ornaments of gold and silver. In the parable the field containing the treasure represents the Holy Scriptures and the Gospel is the treasure itself! The earth itself is not mingled with golden veins and filled with precious things as is the Word of God. The treasures of the Gospel are said to be hidden from those who are wise in their own estimation, who are puffed up by the teaching of vain philosophy! The mystery of the plan of redemption can not be perceived by them. Many have eyes, but they cannot see; they have ears, but they can not hear; they are smart but they can not make sense of the hidden treasure. God doesn't conceal His truth from men but it is by their own course of action that they make it obscure to themselves. Please let that sink in...
Matthew 13:44 - “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field."
